About CKG
From the owner:
I have over 20 years of experience keeping reptiles. I took on my first Ball Python at the age of 10, and that was the first step in what would later turn into decades of hands on experience, in depth study, and dedicated care.
Keeping and breeding Ball Pythons became my focus for years after falling in love with my first Ball Python pet. In my teenage years, I moved into being interested in Red Tail Boas. Around this point I also began to own Leopard Geckos, finding geckos to be fascinating as well. I kept those species exclusively up until the early 2010s, when I began to focus more on my full time job and starting a family.
After a few busy years of not keeping reptiles, in the later 2010s I decided to become a reptile owner once more. I felt compelled to get back into them, but I absolutely didn’t want to participate in the breeding animals of that were already over saturating the pet trade. This meant I was ready to take my time, effort, money and research and put my all into doing something different.
A dream of mine became to keep Angolan Pythons. After an extensive search, I found a pair of Angolans. This species fascinated me. I kept this beautiful duo for years with the intent to pair them, but unfortunately I did find snakes specifically were just too much work for my already busy life. I thought back to my days of raising Leopard Geckos.
At this point I looked back into gecko species, finding the market flooded with Crested Geckos, which never interested me. Leopard Geckos, which I’ve always loved, were a consideration, but I didn’t want to breed them. The market for Leopards appeared just as over saturated as that of the Cresteds, and the like. I continued researching and trying to understand Gecko species.
In my gecko search, I eventually came across what somewhat looked like a little Leopard Gecko, with these blood red eyes, and deep black colors. These weren’t Leopards at all, though. They were a Chinese Cave Gecko ( g. Hainanenes), and I was immediately enamored. I dove into my research, pouring over every fact I could find about this incredible species.
Finding information about the Chinese Cave Geckos care was not always easy. What I did determine right away was that their care is almost entirely different than that of leopards. I found that in some ways it is actually easier. Once I had figured out their care requirements, I began owning my own Cave Geckos. From this point I studied their needs, preferences, behaviors and all of their unique qualities with the utmost intrigue.
Within the last five years I’ve become only more captivated by the various Cave Gecko species that I have begun to raise. I find their habits, appearance, and care to be very exciting and fulfilling. I cannot imagine owning and raising another type of gecko at this time. The more I know about these reptiles, the more I want to know. And likewise, the more I want to share with the world.
Today my focus is on the care and wellbeing of my Cave Geckos, and effectively breeding a careful number of babies. I believe that providing the best care and husbandry to these animals produces the absolutely best geckos for the customer to purchase. These geckos are a huge passion of mine, and I find that others become just as enchanted by them when others experience how fascinating this species is for themselves.
